These are some of the topics we have to address when we talk about sustainability in the wine production context.
Making a sustainable wine means that the grapes must be grown in a way that contributes to the ecosystem, wildlife and workers’ health; that is to say, that they must be grown within a framework of sustainable agriculture. It also entails that processes to optimize the use of resources be applied once the grapes reach the winery.
Vineyards and wineries use a lot of water and raw materials in order to produce, bottle and finally distribute their products. This is why, in view of the broader global issue regarding the preservation of natural resources for future generations, even small considerations about the environmental impact of each process in the wine production can lead to beneficial changes.
Such considerations can be aimed at minimizing the negative impacts of the process as well as enhancing the positive impact that an active sustainability vision has on the whole.
Social responsibility adds to this framework by strengthening not only labor relations within the organizations, but also the link between the vineyards and wineries and the community in which they are located.
